It’s snowing! Just kidding…I live in California! It’s Christmas time and I have not written a blog in about a million years. Life gets busy and blogging/creative writing moves to the bottom of the to-do list. Isn’t it funny how when times get stressful we move the things that we enjoy most to the bottom of our lists? I can’t post recipes if there is no food in my house, and since I insist on not grocery shopping I suppose I will continue to not post recipes (or cook food). Unless you all want to know how to make a bowl of Special K? I can spice it up with some strawberries on top? No? That’s what I thought.
Guess what I made?
Apparently you can cut the fat in brownies and increase the fiber by adding a can of black beans to the brownies instead of following the directions. I wont lie to you and say these are awesome. They kind of have a less chocolaty taste than normal brownies and a stranger more chewy texture (not really in a good way though). But if you are trying to do more of the exercising thing and less of the eating brownies in your bed (or couch, or car, or cubicle) like me, this is a nice way to trick yourself. (more…)
Do you miss me? I miss you too. Life has been crazy. Did you know that insurance has a busy season? Cuz it does apparently. Apparently everything goes haywire in January and again in July. I haven’t been posting much because I started a new adventure. I started Weight Watchers. I started it a little over a month ago and it is going well, down 7 lbs but I haven’t mastered fully enjoying what I am eating yet. I believe that enjoying what you are eating is the diet mecca that everyone wants to get to. That place where you can look at a pile of baby carrots and think “what a good snack” instead of “at least these are the same color as Doritos”. I’m still in my first stage of food grieving, “denial”. I keep thinking there must be a healthy option at In N Out or Mexican food isn’t that bad for me. I can see myself slowly creeping up to “bargaining”. I’ll tell barbecue man that I’ll take a walk if we get something sweet and then I conveniently get too busy with my ice cream to walk. (more…)
Using diet soda to replace the ingredients added to boxed cake mix is a very old trick, but I thought I might just impart this wisdom on the couple of you that don’t know yet. You can take any boxed cake mix and add any diet soda to it an you get a moist cake with half the calories compared to if you had made the cake following the directions. This has been my saving grace for weight watchers…because I love my cake. (more…)
So this isn’t a food or a life blog really. This is just me being excited and wanting to share things with you. I just wanted to drop a line to say how much I have been enjoying another blog. The other day I bumped into the blog South Your Mouth, and I have been addicted ever since. The blog is written by a sassy southern lady named Mandy Rivers. (more…)
He’s so good to me: all my favorite candies and coffees.
Since it was Easter I had to break out my favorite cake recipe. I say break out, like I only make it for Easter, but in reality I use this recipe for everything. I give out this recipe, because I believe in sharing. My mom has always been a church preschool teacher and she sings this song with the kids that goes… Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away. Love is something if you give it away, you end up having more. So I am giving out this recipe because I love you, and I hope more people start making this. (more…)
